What was your grand fathers hunting rifle?

My one grandpa has many hunting rifles, many of which get loaned to freinds and relatives quite often. The only one that come to mind though is his old 30-06 Weatherby. My other grandfather I am not sure about, he died before I was born, I don't even know IF he hunted (probably some though). I can tell you my great-grandfather had a .22 Cooey single shot, and it ended up being given to my dad, and he is giving it directly to me once it gets fixed. What was your grand fathers hunting rifle?
An old, old, old, old break open single shot 12ga. The lettering on the barrel has worn away and the shoulder stock has rounded off. This shotgun was purchased before 1900 and was used in the hills of North Carolina to put dinner on the table. It has delivered countless meals of deer, rabbit, squirrel, pheasant, turkey, dove, boar and bear to a family of 13. It has killed varmints and predators as well as possibly scared the bejesus out of suitors to his daughters.

He also used that gun to win many many Turkey Shoots while all the 'young bucks' with their high dollar hookups laughed at this old man and his old weather beaten piece of wood and steel. They didn't laugh after he punched out bullseye after bullseye.

My uncle still has that old gun. It hangs on the wall loaded with rocksalt to get rid of a stray dog on his farm (or a suitor to his daughter). OK, I made that last part up about the suitor; he has no children. What was your grand fathers hunting rifle?
A sporterized 8mm Mauser that he somehow brought back from Germany during WWII. When he first got it, it had a long sniper scope on it. He replaced it with a standard 3-9X and used it for hunting deer in Texas and Colorado. After he died, my sister inherited it, and my Brother-in-law still uses it occasionally. The gun has such strong memories for me that I recently bought one almost exactly like it at a gun show.
My grandad had an old Savage bolt action 16 gauge shotgun, he used it mostly to keep varmints away from the chicken coop, but he hunted with it too if they needed meat. When he died my uncle got the shotgun, and gave it to one of his daughters husbands who hunts with it sometimes!
my pawpaw had a .410 bolt action but that ant wat he hunted with he told me that he hunted with a 12 gauge double barrel (idk what happend to it i reckon he sold it along time ago ) oh and i got the .410 when he died im going to turn that into one of my nicest guns and will pass it down to my grandson

added WOAH! the one answer said that his grand pa had no children? then hows he ur grandpa!
My grandpa had a bunch of guns. He handed down his 22.250 to me and a Bolt action 30-06. He also gave me the very first version of a Remington 22. Its a 22 bolt action magnum. I shot a 4 point with it one day. Its amazing.
According to my Father it was a Mannlicher stocked carbine in 8mm Mauser. Oddly enough that is my hunting rifle though mine is a lot newer and has peep sights.
A Springfield 1884 trapdoor in 45-70 caliber with Buffington sight. He bought it from the NRA for $7. Used it for deer hunting in Rio New York, just north of Port Jervis.
LC smith side-by-side 16 gauge, one side had an insert with a 12 inch barrel designed to shoot a 22rimfire, with a small cut in the rib to take a notch rear sight.
it was a 32 winchester spl. Witch is my deer rifle now. cant seem to leave it home when it's deer season. I guess it's my way to remember my grandpa.......
He had several of them, all Weatherby's. I believe his favorite cartridge was the .30-06. I know he had several other ';big'; cartridges, though I never saw him shoot those.
Marlin 336 .30-30 from I guess the early 50s. Lyman peep sight, cuz scopes are for sissies. Grandpa's words, not mine.
A custom made Sauer 30.06 made in Germany on a Mauser action. It resides in a special spot in my gun safe today!
