Coyotes are very smart ,and will remember what sents and where you sat up the day before. You have to continually change your cover sent, weather animal or earth. And I,ve noticed that I can't use the same call over and over agian, You have to change, even if you are only hunting on the weekends. Even when trapping you must continually change the bait. I have probably spent three times as much money hunting coyotes, as deer. But if you have alot of them around , and their killing off you livestock, rabbits, pheasants, and quail, it's worth it. Just be patient, and you will get the right combination of lures and calls. What is the best cover cent for coyote hunting?
chicken scent, coyotes love that scent, anything to do with chicken, raw or feathers, or poopWhat is the best cover cent for coyote hunting?
Coyote spore would be the best scent.
I use red fox cover scent or you can use most earth scents. Use a predator call and a rabbot decoy. In some states they allow baiting, check you area conservation agency for the local laws to see the legal ways to hunt them. Hunt near a water source and an area were other game feed, there will be coyotes in this area. Good Luck with your hunt.
Cover scent for coyote hunting???
You are going to sneak up on an animal whose sense of smell is a thousand times better than yours, who can practically see in the dark and who can hear you coming from a half-a-mile away? And you are worried about covering your scent?
Why don't you use a lure, a good scope on your rifle and pop him before he can get close enough to bite you, rather than trying to sneak up on him with your Bowie knife?
Happy hunting.

Cover yourself in steak, You'll get alot of coyotes and other animals to come after you! No need to hunt for them!
I agree with H everything he said is right on. The best way to hunt them is try to predict where they will come from and stay downwind, because you will not fool their nose no matter how you try. I call them quite often, I also trap and they are a very smart animal. The American Indians held them in high esteem, because they were so smart. To the non-hunter have you ever seen what a coyote can and will do to livestock? Or one of your kids dogs, or cats? If you had then you would be sitting right there beside me trying to put the crosshairs on your scope in the sweet spot.
Hunting is cruel, you evil person. How would you like someone to come along with a gun and shoot you?
Red fox is probably the best all around cover scent. Wild animals will be leery of a scent that doesn't belong. Fresh earth is okay but if it doesn't match the area perfectly, they will pick it out as abnormal for the area and will stay away. I have heard about chicken scent, but I have seen no proof. Red fox are just about everywhere so it is normal for them to smell in almost any area. But, it smells rather rank and some people won't use it for this reason. If you can handle the smell, this would be my recommendation. Good luck and happy hunting.
