Whitetail Hunting in southern Ontario?

Every year me and my hunting partner go out and buy 2-3 whitetail tags each. We usually get between 1 doe and 1 buck each. Now he hunts with a 50. cal black powder and i hunt with a 12 gauge shotgun. I own a 270. win, but he says i cant use it around here, why? i can use it on coyote, but why not deer?Whitetail Hunting in southern Ontario?
The reasoning is coyotes often are hunted at a great distance and their are many less hunter also chasing coyotes than deer. The Ministry of Natural Resources, and Municipalities are concerned that in areas of higher population densities because the long distance rifled ammunition can travel that is may present a risk of stray bullets hitting someone. Shot gun ammunition has a much shorter range. There are WMU's in the southern region where you can use rifles particularly in eastern Ontario, WMU 62 near tweed is open to rifles, and 63B near Kemptville/Smiths Falls. Just check the regs for where a rifle over shotgun can be used. I have hunted all over the south, and once hunted in the south end of 63 B in Merrickville where there was a open rifle season. This area is very populated, and let me tell you with the number of hunters in a small piece of bush I was nervous of stray bullets. Hope this helps.Whitetail Hunting in southern Ontario?
It's illegal to hunt with a centre fire rifle south of the French and Mattawa Rivers in Ontario. So if your using a .270 when hunting coyotes south of the area's mentioned then it's illegal
most laws don't make sense, but it always makes sense to follow them.
