By the way the Boy Scouts are there celebrating the 100th birthday of scouting in the International Jamboree.

Pat some of them on the back. Many of them are coming up behind you into the ranks, like my son. Just finished 11b AIT
Congratualtions and enjoy your break---I'm sure its well deserved!

Not sure if the craze has completely passed, but it seemed like many people had taken up all sorts of water sports for a while there....

PS: I found a really good karaoke bar in Southampton last year. I forget the name. It might have been the Lizard Lounge? I'm not sure. If you're interested I could find out. The people in England seem to sing much better than in the US.

My Cat won't stop hunting!! He has braught in 6 mice, 3 birds, 1 rabit and 1 mole!!!?

He is over weight, and keeps hunting and eating the things he catches. He did not kill the baby bunny or maybe 2 of the mice but he keeps catching them. We originally got him from the wild, where he hunted for food, so it is his instinct. We have put a jinglely bell collar on him but he is very good hunter. How can we stop him? Please help!!!My Cat won't stop hunting!! He has braught in 6 mice, 3 birds, 1 rabit and 1 mole!!!?
Feral cats cannot be trained not to hunt so you'll have to manage the problem. Keeping him inside is best anyway as outdoor cats rarely live to old age and it is cruel to put them in constant danger. My Cat won't stop hunting!! He has braught in 6 mice, 3 birds, 1 rabit and 1 mole!!!?
It's completely in your cat's nature to hunt... the cat's not trying to be 'malicious;' if anything your cat is trying to bring you these mice, birds and such as a token of his gratitude, as odd as that may seem, for the home that you've provided for him. You mustn't show any disdain toward him as he is merely trying to ';reimburse you'; for the home and care you've provided him. For the cat, it's a way of expressing gratitude. Like the author above astutely put, if you really want him to stop hunting then you must make him an indoor cat otherwise, it'll be futile.
How did you get him from the wild? was he a stray? Anyway I would put a looser bell on him or mabey multiple bells. You might have more succes if the bells are hanging from a string rather than fixed (if be the case) because a fixed bell on a collar can only ring if the cat is moving quickly which he wont be when staking prey.
it would be easier to stop the rain, or maybe a river from flowing. even lowering gas prices would be easier.

the bell just makes it more of a challenge, take it off before he hangs himself.

cats were put on this earth to kill off the sick and old. leave him be. be thankful he doesnt bring snakes home.
You don't stop him it is in his nature. Just say good kitty and put the game outside, keep doing this and if you are as lucky as I am after a while the cat will take care of business outside.I have 4 cats. Once one of them brought a rattlesnake to the door but did not bring it in.Good kitty!
You can't it is a cat's instinct to hunt. Even house only cats will stalk small animals. He is bringing you presents to show you how much he cares for you. If he is overweight the exercise is good for him. The only way to keep him from hunting is to keep him inside.
Keep him in the house is what I think. But if you insit on letting him outside, you can't stop him. It's his instincts and he still remembers them. He knows his skills and wild past. You just will have to live with it or keep him inside.
try as hard as you can to keep him in the house. i had several cats that were also big time into hunting, sadly, some of them just never came home, i miss them and wish i would have kept them indoors. be very careful with outdoor cats.
you cant stop him its in his nature and as a wild cat had to hunt for his own food, also if he is not killing the animals he has hunted then he is bringing you them as a present to thank you for taking him in..
only way to stop him is to keep him in the house. it is so normal for him to do this. there is really no way to stop it. get a bigger bell or maybe a couple of them.
Good kitty. He is ridding your yard of pests. If you don't want him to hunt, make him an indoor only cat. You CANNOT undo a million years of evolution.
this sounds easy, he's proved that he can survive with out your food. stop wasting your money and making the cat fatter. quit buying food...but if you really want him to stop hunting, don't let him out or declaw(bad idea)
Cats are hunters, even my cat, who is declawed and a total house cst, will hunt when he gets out.

Cats are predators, and you really can't change it.
He is doing what is natural, the next he bring home a gift give him a treat for a job well done. That is what he is looking for
Cage him! and make him used to eating cat food, make sure its dry, or give him a good bath and dont let him outside. Good Luck!!
You can't. It's what predators do. All cats have the instinct just like humans. He's just better at it than most.
he loves you and is bringing you presents!! give him praise and love...he is being a good provider and being a great cat...

Is there a law against hunting with a bow and arrow in Concord, Calif.?

From what i know Concord is over by the bay and more over where the city is so I would guess yes it is illegal.

You might want to go up state more to hunt with a bow

Like Shasta, Lassen, Siskyou county's.Is there a law against hunting with a bow and arrow in Concord, Calif.?
Considering how built-up the area is, I would say ';Yes, it is illegal to bowhunt IN Concord, California.';

Check with your local government offices for where you can bowhunt, they will have that information. Don't bother asking the cops -- they will most likely say ';No, you can't';, even if you can, because to a cop a bow is just another weapon -- and cops generally don't like to have ';weapons'; on the street, no matter what kind they are. Especially in California. Is there a law against hunting with a bow and arrow in Concord, Calif.?
In the city limits? I would certainly think so. What would you hunt? Maybe you could shoot rats.
Ask the local authorities. I'll bet there is, though, just a hunch.

  • Why do i see turkeys when i go deer hunting and deer when i go turkey hunting?

ever see the Warner Brothers cartoon where Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny kept messing with Elmer Fudd by switching the signs/ That's what the turkeys and deer do !!!Why do i see turkeys when i go deer hunting and deer when i go turkey hunting?
go for both and you`ll find none :))Why do i see turkeys when i go deer hunting and deer when i go turkey hunting?
Because the law really doesn't matter if you don't get caught. That means go hunting when you feel like it. Go ahead and kill whatever you want, whatever makes you feel better.
Because those little rascals are smart !!
thats why its called hunting and not killing lol. yeah that happens to me also, but either way it is still fun to do and it sure as hell beats a day at work. plus you didnt know that the animals know when their season opens lol
Because you are hunting whitetails and they live in the same areas as turkeys.

Generally you will not find mule deer in that type of area.
They all live in the same areas, eat and sleep in the same areas and don't pay any attention to what season it is for human hunters until they're shot at. By that time as Scooby Do would say'; it's too late to worry about that now!'; Nyuk!
they got the memo that it was ok to come out of hiding
    Murphy was an optimist
maybe you shud lay of the drugs
because the deer are dressing up as turkeys and the turkeys are dressing up as deer

    ^_^
Because a deer is no turkey!
The same reason why a nice 12-14 pt. buck came to my feeder the night before hunting started and slept under a tree in my yard. Dumb luck!!
That happens a lot to me when i go deer hunting i see lots of grouse and when i got grouse hunting i see lots of deer, i has to do with deer in the rut and turkeys in flocks, deer are in group's when they are in the rut, and spread out after the rut so you see more deer when turkey hunting, and you see more turkeys when deer hunting because the turkeys in large flocks with young birds and the are spread out when you turkey hunt.
shoot them both if your hungry. if your doing for sport well play by the rules. the game master likes to play with your head by only alowing the wrong game out to bug ya
    Its karma.

    Miketyson26
They know what you are after and have made a deal to confuse you.
You should read laws on baiting and heavily bait turkey or deer . The conservation laws in your area probably have a cut off time before each season.

Doing this will bring game in your area and will maybe hold them there till the season begins.

Corn is a wonderful thing for Turkeys and Deer.

Small wheat plots are inexpensive and easy to plant they will draw both in to this area.
the same reason that the day you got married gorgeous twins hit on you to have a threesome with them.. lol

if you see the turkeys when you are deer hunting they are in a fall flock and may not use that area in the spring Find good mast trees and find out where they roost during deer season. they will be close that spring...stop looking and start listening...early am you will find them good luck
    Murphy's law......Anyway hunting is cruel
    murphys law
    Sounds right to me haha,

Almost seems like they can tell what season it is huh?

Just have to spend more time in the outdoors and learn their patterns. I have spent many hours just scouting the land looking for signs and patterns.
maybe someone is trying to tell you something
You know that never fails.....I am glad I am not the only one that happens to. But I always seem to get my tags filled so just enjoy hunting....hunting is always fun whether it take you 1 day or 1 month to fill the tag....
Been there, done that. Sux big time.

Can you go hunting with the legolas mirkwood bow?

was going to buy this bow and its draw back is 28 and draw back weight is 50 pounds so is this ok to use it for hunting cause i am a lotr nerdCan you go hunting with the legolas mirkwood bow?
Check your local hunting regulations. Can you go hunting with the legolas mirkwood bow?
depends on state regulations, In alaska big game(blakc bear, moose, caribou, sheep, and black tail deer); requires a MINIMUM of 51Lbs draw at 28inches(bows are measured at 28 inches usually for weight). Brown bear and musk ox requires i belive 70lbs draw weight at 28inches.

there ar also arrow weight requirements (not sure) but a super light arrow goes really fast but stops really fast too and doesnt penetrate far enough to hit vital areas reliably, It is not easy to learn to shoot a bow accuratly, takes several hours of practice a week obtain accuracy, and it isnt like riding a bike your body will forget to some extent how to shoot accuratly and you will need to brush up prior to hunting. a 50 lb bow isnt an ideal learner bow, kinda like getting a ford mustang with a v8 for a first car, i would recomend a 50 lbs compound to learn, way easier to shoot accuratly.

there are also arrow point restrictions for big game, they are long and varied.

ALSO in alaska you must pass an ability test with a bow to hunt in bow only hunts, regular hunts where you will be trying to use a bow where other people are using rifles allow you to use a bow with no restrictions, but the idea behind the ability test is to make sure that people hunting with bows are able to safely and humanely hunt animals.
i expect it's a bit different in the US, but in the UK hunting with a bow in not allowed. i'm not sure it'd be allowed in the US either, the general perception is that, because bows rarely kill outright, or stop an animal as quickly as a gun, it's cruel.

Does anyone enjoy hunting deer as much as i do?

what kind of attractent should i use this weekend in Northwestern ohio Does anyone enjoy hunting deer as much as i do?
It's hard to say if I enjoy hunting as much or more than you do. Could you quantify how much you love hunting deer. Let me know what your quantifying paradigm is so I can apply it to my love for hunting. That way, we will have a way of comparing our relative intensity of enjoyment of deer hunting.

I don't fine attractants to be all that good. I think they are best in attracting hunters in the store. I have found some value in masking scents if they are used properly. The most effective attractant I have found is the use of rattling horns. If the deer are in rut, rattling is a very effective way of attracting deer. They think it is two deer fighting and want to come see who it is and what does they are fighting over They tend to come at a run when you are rattling so be prepared. .Does anyone enjoy hunting deer as much as i do?
Deer are not only tasty but they are more healthy to eat than beef, pork or chicken.

Mice are cute...But mice aren't likely to be eaten...by most people.

In the state I reside in it is unlawful to 'domesticate' wild game.

What most people don't understand about hand outs to wild animals is that they become accustom to the handouts and may stay in an area unsuitable for their survival in hard winter conditions.
i use some stuff that comes in a little bottle called moon fire, it works pretty well, i just put it on a wick and hang it from a branch downwind of me
No, I don't, they live in my backyard and I feed them, they are so cute, I like the meat though when someone else kills them.
Yes, no attractant necessary in order to be successful.* Just be out there in a tree stand.*

Why are mutts excluded from competitions like agility, rally, hunting???some are prefectly trained and capable

who else thinks its unfair??? (i'm not referring to showing for breed standards, thats normal that they have to be pure breeds)Why are mutts excluded from competitions like agility, rally, hunting???some are prefectly trained and capable
I think you have a good point for agility, tracking, obedience and rally.

But most purebreds are excluded from events like earthdog, hunting, herding and lure coursing. Maybe it's fair and maybe it's not, but that's the way it is and I have no problem with limiting it to only a few breeds.

However, mutts really aren't excluded. They can compete in UKC events, Kennel Club events (I think), American Working Terrier Association earthdog trials, AMBOR events, USDAA events, NADAC events, CPE events, NAFA events, NAMBR events, DOCNA events, Australian Shepherd Club of America events, and a whole lot of others (see links below).

It's AKC that excludes them. I understand AKC's position. AKC was started to promote and showcase purebred dogs. That's still their focus. They are there to promote purebred dogs. AKC has nothing against mixed breeds, anymore than the Brittany Club of America has anything against German Shepherds. That's just not their focus.

However, AKC has considered the possibility of opening such events up to mixed breeds. In fact, I think they still are considering this. Not too long ago they had a survey for dog people to fill out about their feelings about allowing mixed breeds to compete.

I'm leaning more toward allowing mixed breeds to compete. The Kennel Club (in England) does this well and even has an event called Scruffts, which I think is similar to conformation, for mixed breeds.

ADD: Paul: I think allowing mutts to compete in obedience and other events would only add to AKC's revenue. It won't take much extra effort or expense on their part. Mixed breeds don't need a club supporting them. The dogs would need to register with AKC ($15-$20) and then AKC would get a portion from every dog entered (I think it's at $1.50 right now). If anything, money is encouraging AKC to allow mutts to compete, not discouraging them.

ADD: Ali: I hear that if your dog fails ILP, just send in the form again. You may get someone different who will register your dog. Just keep sending it back until you get someone who recognizes the Schnauzer under the haircut. Why are mutts excluded from competitions like agility, rally, hunting???some are prefectly trained and capable
i do think its unfair. mutts are the same as other dogs. they are just made of 2 or more different breeds
As another answer stated, there are plenty of other venues, other than AKC, for mixes to compete in agility and obedience.

Every purebred dog was bred for a purpose. Whether it's hunting, herding, going to ground for vermin...and those functions go right along with breeding the ideal dog of it's breed. We use conformation to prove a dog is a worthy specimen of it's breed, as described in the breed standard as it applies to temperament, coat, height, weight, movement, etc....Performance areas such as obedience, field trials, herding trials, prove that the dog can do what it was orginally bred to do. My ideal Rottweiler is one that can take my breath away gaiting in the breed ring, and can go into the herding arena or obedience ring and use it's instinct and brain...

The AKC is about the purebred dog. That's the basis for the whole organization , and for the thousands of kennel clubs across the U.S. That's just a fact...
    Its all about $$$$$$$$$$.

Mutts just don't bring in the sponsors to

    pay for the competitions.
i have a compplaint similar to yours. i have a mini schnauzer, but since he doesn't have the traditional schnauzer cut, they won't let him into the show becuase they don't belive that he is a purebred, they think that he's a mutt.
Mutts can compete in some agility competitions. They can also compete in competitions like the freestyle frisbee toss. Other than that, it is unfair how they can't be in other competitions. Mutts have just as much to offer as purebreds!
If AKC were to allow mutts to compete in sport events I would hope they'd require spay/neuter before being allowed to. Just like getting an ILP.

In fact I think most of the organizations that do allow them to compete require them to be spayed or neutered before they can compete.
It depends on the organization holding the trial. AKC isn't going to allow mixed breeds because they're all about promoting the breed standard and encouraging responsible pet ownership and breeding, thus there shouldn't be mixed breeds if people are spaying/neutering their pet quality dogs. However, if you have a purebred (or it looks mostly purebred) you can contact the AKC about getting an ILP number to participate in those events.
Mixed breeds aren't excluded from agility. They are allowed to compete. However, for hunting competitions and such the judges have to have breed standards to judge on.

It's unfair sometimes, but there are so many activities that mixeds can participate in that it kinda evens out.

  • Northwestern Oregon coast hunting?

i am hoping to find some insight about hunting mountain lions in the area of northwestern Oregon coast mountain range area. i have never hunted or even seen a mountain lion in the wild so any tips or help or local hot spots you know of that can help me to get my trophy mountain lion is very sincerely appreciated. thanks so much.Northwestern Oregon coast hunting?
Well thank you for helping us control this lion population. First off the highest population of lions here in Oregon is in Jackson and Josephine Counties. Where I live and hunt. However they are everywhere and our fish and game people are very willing to help you get one so ask the branch office in the unit you are hunting. The most effictive legal means of taking a lion is to find an area with high rocky cliffs with a panoramic view and good population of deer. Get yourself a fawn distress call and set up somewhere it is difficult for the lion to walk up behind you. I prefer to have a rock bluff at my back. The lion will probably aproach downwind but not always. Camo and sent control is vital and early morning seems to be the most productive. Follow instructions on box for using your call. I prefer Primos brand calls. The hardest part is not shooting one of the other animals that responds to the call faster that a carefull lion. Be patient. If bears and bobcats and so forth are responding you are doing it right. Just let them approach and they may poke around a bit however they will see you and flee. Keep calling and watching wait for your lion. They usually get very close before you see them and you will only get one shot. They are super fast however they have very small lungs and can't go to far without needing a rest. So they walk up very slow and pounce with lighting speed. You wont hear them comming. A decoy can also help put your lion where you want him. It is illeagle here in Oregon to use game birds or animals as bait. However a chicken wing on a piece of fishing line hanging from a tree limb moving in the wind usually gets all sorts of attention. I could go on and on. Hope I helped if you have any more questions I would be happy to help you. Oregon has to many cougars they are killing off our deer and elk heards threatning livestock and pets. My county has actually hired a guy to kill everyone he can run down and he is recieving 30k a year to do it! We use to be able to hunt them with hounds but the new liberal inflow from california voted that out. My county voted the other way but it didn't matter. So the people in Portland that have no Cougars get to tell us rural Jackson county folk how to control the population. We have open season almost all year, 24 hours a day and can't stop them. They breed like house cats. Last year I was pursuing bobcats with 4 hounds. 2 hounds were killed and eaten right there on the spot. I had to shoot one because her skull was shattered. The forth and final hound refuses to hunt anymore and has been retired into a house dog. Good hunting we thank you for your efforts. get the kittyNorthwestern Oregon coast hunting?
Sorry, but I think hunting an animal just to get a trophy is a rotten thing to do. Unless you want to chow down on lion fricasee, stick to something you can actually USE.

    How to start hunting?

ive never hunted in my life, but i want to start. what should i do, i dont know anybody who can teach me to huntHow to start hunting?
I think there are a couple questions that you need to answer first:

Why do I want to hunt?

    -To kill something

    -To eat something

    -For the trophy

-To say I have done it

What type of time commitment am I willing to put forth?

    -minimal -moderate

    -as much as needed

How much Funding to I have to go to this?

    -Minimal

    -Moderate

    -As much as needed

These are important, to go hunting is one thing, but to be a responsible hunter is another.

If your willing to put in the time the first thing you need to do is join a club or make a friend that is willing to take you into the field(unarmed at first), get comfortable with your weapon of choice and if a larger animal is your game learn the anatomy of the animal (so you know where to take the shot). Learning the right way of doing things can take years and a lot of patience.

If getting in and out is your cup of tea and all you want is a trophy then I suggest finding a paid hunting trip for the animal you want. This will be expensive though in most cases.

One piece of experience is that no matter how much time you put into it, your first shot will be your hardest, your heart beating uncontrollably, your palms sweating and you probably wont be able to hold your gun steady. Good times!!! Don鈥檛 forget to take in the surroundings, nothing is better than a snowy morning in your tree stand. How to start hunting?
First, you need to know what you want to hunt. You should base this on what game is available in your state, and what you like to eat. If you don't know what something tastes like, try to find a store that sells it. For example, don't go kill a deer if you don't know if you like venison. You may end up hating it, and then what? You've just wasted an animal. So make sure you're going to eat it before you shoot it.

The next step would be to obtain a hunting license. This is actually pretty easy. You usually need to take a hunting course to get one. A lot of hunting stores offer classes. You then have to take a test. If you pass, you can get your license the very same day. Look up a hunting store near you, and call them up about hunting lessons.

The next step would be to buy gear. Obviously, you need a gun. Whether you get a shotgun or a rifle depends on what you're hunting. Many people buy both, because they hunt different kinds of game. For turkey, birds and anything that's small and runs quickly- such as a rabbit or a squirrel, a shotgun is preferred. For anything else, a rifle is usually the weapon of choice. Keep in mind that many people use rifles for rabbits and squirrels. Choose which one you're going to get based on the game you will hunt.

You then need to select a caliber(rifle) or gauge(shotgun). In case you don't know much about guns, that is the size of the bullet or shot shell. I will give you a list of calibers needed for different animals.

For squirrel, chipmunk, rats, mice, groundhog, raccoon, possum and rabbits, a 22 long rifle will be sufficient. Don't shoot anything bigger than a raccoon, though.

For fox, a 22wmr is recommended. This is also a good caliber for raccoon and possum. Since fox are considered pests, and you can't eat the meat, a larger caliber may be used. If you plan on saving the pelts or you want to mount the fox, though, a 22wmr should be used to avoid ruining the pelt.

For coyote, a .223 is good. But the same goes for coyote as fox. You can't eat the meat, and many people kill them because of the threat to livestock. So if you're not going to save the pelts and you're not mounting it, any caliber larger than a .223 will be good.

For whitetail deer, the legal minimum is .243. I suggest a .308, however. A .308 can also be used for elk and hogs. Since you're a beginner, I don't think you'll need something bigger.

For turkey, I've hunted with a 12 gauge. I've never hunted anything else with a shotgun, so I can't recommend gauges for you.

Now that you've chosen a caliber, you need to get hunting clothes. Camoflauge is a good idea to have. You will also need heavy clothing, because it can get extremely cold. I was wearing two sets of pants, one of which was made for cold weather, two shirts and a heavy jacket, and I was freezing my *** off. So get some warm clothes. You will need heavy socks, too. You also need a good pair of boots. Steel toed boots aren't recommended, because of their weight.
first step if your state requires you to get an id for owning firearms make sure you get that. next find a hunters education course that is offered by your state. some states require that you take it. once you take that and pass then you figure out what you want to hunt and you can go get your hunting liscense. suppose you decided you want to go pheasant hunting. go to your local natural resource department's website and find out all the info you can about a public reserve. you can ussually register a day to go out hunting at a public reserve online or you can take your luck with a lottery. here in illinois it costs about 15 bux a bird for farm raised birds... there are virtually no wild pheasants left in my area. you can go out on foot without a dog but that's definately a more difficult endeavor. if you hook up with a friend that has a bird dog then that'll make it a little bit more rewarding. the best way to get into any kind of hunting is to hook up with a buddy that has some experience. seeing as you don't have anybody to show you around your best bet is to join some online forums and try to make some friends and research as much as you can.
Waht do you want to hunt? if you want to hunt small game, ( Squirrels, Rabbits, Racoons, Groundhogs etc.) Ask farmers in your area if they ahve a problem with these animals. buy a 20 Gauge, .17 HMR or .22 LR

If you want to go medium game, ( Deer, Boar, Antelope) hunting join a hunt club, they provide you with land and tactics. i would buy a .270, 30-06, or 30-30. Hope this helps.

    Happy Hunting!
First off, lets spend some money. You'll need either a gun and some ammo or a bow and some arrows along with all required permits. you'll be told about these when you make your purchases. Next, you need to dress the part. You need to be literally ';dressed to kill';. You need a set of camo clothing and sturdy boots. Don't forget your ';hunter's orange. A ghillie suit can speed the learning curve quite a bit. That will get you started, but don't let your wallet get to far out of reach.
know what you want to hunt...

go to a gun range and practice shooting your gun to get used to it...

watch some videos first...they teach you some basics on how to hunt and to clean the kills...

    read you states regulations...

go out and try it out....

    practice makes perfect...
go to Google and find that very good video about how to gut/clean a rabbit. I saw it one day featured on wikihow.

then get a gun (.22 rimfire rifle or any decent air rifle .177 or larger 500 fps or faster) and shoot a rabbit legally (check with state or local gaming laws). then clean/gut the rabbit and use as food.

and that's the gist of hunting.
if you have no one to teach you.. that is not good!

TAKE A GUN SAFETY CLASS FIRST! Go to your local gun shop and they can get you in the right 1 or 2 hour class and probably hook you up with some local hunters.

You could also find some local hunters here http://bigkill.com
Join a club in your area and read about the rules of hunting on your states game web site first....then move on from there.

Find some buds to hang out with who hunt......there are forums for that.
Yah, what do you want to hunt? Put up some additional details.
ok first what do you want to hunt?

Was sending Bobby (real first name PIYUSH) Jindal up against President Obama akin to sending him bear hunting?

hunting with a switch ?Was sending Bobby (real first name PIYUSH) Jindal up against President Obama akin to sending him bear hunting?
The movers and the shakers of the Republican party knew Jindal was a dud. That's why they are wearing him out now. There will be nary a word regarding Jindall in the 2012 primary.

Ah.. You forget about the head of the Republican Party...

    Steele

Fear.. they have no idea how idiotic the man sounded. Is it fearful to call a lousy politician a lousy politician. Was sending Bobby (real first name PIYUSH) Jindal up against President Obama akin to sending him bear hunting?
No, that was not bear hunting with a switch.

It was a well known Governor gaining more recognition while making a clear statement about the spending package and the future of the country.

Unless your a Dem. In which case, it's a time for name calling and derision.
Jindal sounded like a moron last night, I switched him off after about 2 minutes.

All that condescending nonsense from the GOP about how far we have come was irritating.

Yeah, with little help from them.

Gop has yet to champion women or minorities.
It is funny how everyone is talking about Jindal, and Obama has been all but ignored in his first big address to the nation since being inaugurated.
Obama as a Bear--sure--the Russian Communist Bear for sure.
Jindal is a joke. I can't believe Republicans actually think this guy will give Obama a run for his money.
Ahh. gotta love all the fear coming from the lib camp. When they start name calling, you got them on the ropes!
I'd love to see them go head to head in a debate. Barry wouldn't stand a chance.

What where how , hunting in florida?

First of all, i want to point out im 14, live in miami,fl and i have no hunting expeireince at all. I want to go hunting with my dad but i dont even know if theres hunting places in florida if u guuys could tell me a summary about the requirements of hunting or handling a gun and equipments i would appriecaite, oh and can u tell me a good hunting place in fl?What where how , hunting in florida?
Well lets start off finding out what you/your dad already have. Do you and your father have a hunter safety course? Well let's assume you don't go to this sight.

    http://www.myflorida.com/apps/hunter_ed/鈥?/a>

Next, once you have the hunter safety course out of the way, do you have guns/bows to hunt with? Well, this is the section where personal preference really comes into play. Check to see what your state regulations are as far as caliber restrictions.

Alright, you don't know about state lands, but if you go to your state's game and fish conservation website, you will find a lot of areas for you to hunt.

Just to get you started, and I welcome you and your dad to the world of hunting. What where how , hunting in florida?
Unknown Truth speaks the truth. First you need to take the Hunter Safety Course; you can't get a license without it. But, you don't need a license until you turn 16 years old. Around Miami there are only a few state-owned areas to hunt. Here is a map that shows their locations:

    http://www.myfwc.com/docs/RecreationActi鈥?/a>

Here are the individual brochures for the different areas:

    http://www.myfwc.com/RECREATION/Hunt_WMA鈥?/a>

Each one has the regulations for it, as well as a map of that particular area. Some of the Wildlife Management Areas require a Quota Hunt permit if you hunt during certain times, usually during the first and last week. This permit is free for most areas, but they go quickly once the issuing period begins.

I also welcome you and your father to the world of hunting. May you both find it to be an enjoyable experience. Just remember; The hunting is always good. Sometimes the finding is poor, though.

    Shoot straight and stay safe.

  • Oklahoma pellet gun hunting?

I have a question, what can i hunt humanly and legally with a .177 1000fps gamo silent cat in Lawton, Oklahoma.Oklahoma pellet gun hunting?
Probably nothing much larger than a butterfly. The .177 just isn't a hunting projectile.Oklahoma pellet gun hunting?
alright if your gun was advertised at 1000 FPS then it probobly goes 800-900 FPS resulting in 12-13 foot lbs of energy. As most people say the .177 is not a hunting caliber, and i agree with them to a certain extent, but anything is possible. i have killed groundhogs in 850 FPS .177 with headshots, piegons 35 yards away rabbits instantly and squirrels more than anything. so to answer your question you could hunt jackrabbits(with a headshot), cottontails, squirrels, prairie dogs and doves and piegons. good luck
The two animals I know of for sure are squirrels and rabbits. Go to www.wildlifedepartment.com and review the regulations for what you want to hunt. Under ';Legal means of taking';, if it says ';air propelled missile';, that means a pellet or BB gun. There are no restrictions on power or caliber of air guns in Oklahoma.

One thing you need to know, it is illegal to shoot any bird other than a starling or sparrow with ANY kind of rifle in Oklahoma.
Air guns are legal for small game in OK. Use a good hunting pellet, not the target type. You need a hunting license %26amp; hunter ed. card. Squirrels

and rabbits will drop with a proper shot.
I believe hunting humans is illegal in OK as wells as the other 49 states. But check with your local conservation dept. just to be sure.

Best Hunting Rifle for Deer Hunting?

I am interested in going deer hunting, what is a good rifle i could get for less than $500?

I have been duck hunting a few times, but no one i know ever goes hunting anymore, and i dont want to get a dog to train for duck hunting.Best Hunting Rifle for Deer Hunting?
Way back, right after I invented dirt, I thought I would only need one rifle and have that rifle or at least cartridge forever, and that was a 30-06. After all these years and lots of other guns and calibers, I've never been without a 30-06. There are a lot of calibers you could use for deer hunting, many states mandate a minimum of 6mm/243 Win; and that is with using a 90 grain or better bonded core or controlled expansion bullet. Personally, given the choice I would move up to 7mm-08,270,308 or again, my favorite the 30-06.

As for rifles at $500, there are Remington 700 ADLs at WalMart currently for $445-$475, some with the cheap scope on them, but a decent Nikon Pro Staff is $160-$200 depending on where you buy it. They also have the 770 Remingtons but I don't advise getting those to anyone. Savages and Weatherby Vanguards were similar in price again, some with scopes that are usable but not top tier by any means. Any would be fine choices. The Howa 1500 / Hogue stock with Nikko Sterling scope is usually about $450-$495 and the Howa is the same as a Vanguard,so that is a great deal. If I were to spend $500 on just a rifle I'm getting a Tikka T3. I'm not a big fan of 30-30s or lever actions, not because they don't do the job, but because there are so many better rifles and cartridges these days. If I chose a 30-30 at least they make the Hornady Lever Revolution cartridges now. I hunt in areas where any thing from 400 yard shots to 30 foot shots can happen, and I would rather err on the side of the 400 yard shot.

Almost forgot---Cabela's has some Remington ADL in 270 for like $400.Best Hunting Rifle for Deer Hunting?
What kind of hunting are you wanting to do?

If you are going to spend most of you time in the woods where shots are limited to 100 yards or so, a Marlin 30/30 will fit the bill fine.

If you are wanting to look over a 20 acre bean field and take shots at 200-300 yards and $500 is just for the gun, not the scope you would do well with a bolt gun from most all the major manufactures. There are folks on here that will fight all night about which is better a Win. 70, Browning A-Bolt, Ruger 77, or Rem 700. Any of these are accurate enough for deer hunting and should be found for $500 or less. Caliber you want for this type of gun also plays a role in your choice. Unless you want to get into reloading I would stick with one of the 5 or 6 rounds that can be found still at wal mart and in most any little back woods hardware store. I would not go smaller than 243, while a 223ish round is good at times, they really are not great deer rounds. If you are hunting larger deer found north of me, I would go with a 270, 308, or 30-06. If you think you may want to go elk hunting some day and use your one center fire rifle you may want to look into a 300 win mag but that is a bit of over kill for deer.

    Good luck.

    Dave
Its not the ';best'; gun for hunting deer...but the cheapest way would be to get a 30-30, the poor man's deer hunting rifle...you can get one for $300 or less. Also in the same price range would be an SKS, more of a military surplus rifle, but a lot of people do use them for deer hunting.
Tons of answers are going to appear for your question, and mostly comes down to personal preferance. I use a Savage .30-06 or a Winchester Model 70 7mm Rem. Mag. But do check out the Savage packages. The .30-06, .270, or .308 would be some popular, suitable choices.
I say go with a .308 Remington or a .270 Remington. Remington is a great brand and make really nice rifles. Not sure 'bout the cost though.
    A Stevens 200 with 30-06, Remington 770 in 30-06 or Ruger M77 in 30-06...
.243 is the best gun price for good deer hunting round. you will be able to get some cheap the ammo isnt very costly and it sights in quite well
Any Savage 308 Winchester. They should all be under 500.

IS Bear hunting with Dogs still legal?

Can you still hunt black bears with packs of dogs during designated times in the US?

(using Mastiffs, Presas and other big breeds)IS Bear hunting with Dogs still legal?
It all depends on the state you are in. There is no U.S. code against hunting bears with dogs, but several states have banned the practice. Check your state's fish and game laws for the answer.IS Bear hunting with Dogs still legal?
In Canada, it's legal but you still shoot the bear. It's not like the dogs rip the bear to shreds or something like that, more like chasing it into a tree so you can shoot it. Very dangerous for your dogs!!
I don't know about black bears, but there are some places where bears are plentiful and there is a bear hunting season during certain times of the year. Alaska and Canada probably. In any case, Dog hunting with Bears is legal at any time of the year. You just need to find a pack of bears to help you search for stray dogs. :D
awww wats a matter? cant hunt them your self so you got to get your dogs to do the work for you??
YES, IN SOME STATES. cHECK YOUR LOCAL LAWS
in some states like California im not sure about any others

Noorway and Canada have a new kind of tourisme. Killing baby seals!!!! They call it ';hunting'; and i'ts a sport

How to post the pic to this website from my e-mail box?Noorway and Canada have a new kind of tourisme. Killing baby seals!!!! They call it ';hunting'; and i'ts a sport
It's a myth that baby seals are still killed. Juvenile seals are still harvested. It's got nothing to do with sport, it's mainly to reduce the seal's predation on fish stocks and the income for sealers is a bonus. It's not as if anyone claims that harp seals are an endagered species. If anything, there are more of them now than ever. If it's morally wrong to kill juvenile animals, then the veal and lamb industry is a lot larger offender than the seasonal sea hunt. If someone went to rural New Zealand and told them to leave those sheep alone, they would be told to go get stuffed. Why are people so suprised that folks in seal-hunting areas feel the same way?Noorway and Canada have a new kind of tourisme. Killing baby seals!!!! They call it ';hunting'; and i'ts a sport
Contrary to what you believe (which is wrong) they do not allow public hunting of seals, (tourism as you suggest) After the ministry of natural resources realized that the overpopulation of seals was delivering a catastrophic blow to the atlantic salmon population, it was decideed to reinstate the controlled hunt of harp seals. The hunt is conducted by the native Inuit people who need the income to survive. If the seals were left unchecked then they would have totally wiped out the salmon stocks and then they all would have starved to death. Are you telling us that you support letting poor inocent seals die of starvation? You are a sick and cruel monster! Thank god that Canada and Norway have the good sense to club these little menaces to the world ecology down to a sustainable population. Open your eyes and have a look around, what are you doing to save the world?
Some people eat baby cows and baby sheep. Does that make them killers too?

While I understand your thinking, what is this going to do? Do you know the reason people kill seals? Do you know that natives from around the Arctic circle have been killing seals for hundreds of years AND wearing their skins?

If you kill a seal for the fun of it, you're right. It's wrong.

If you kill a seal for food and clothing, you're wrong. For some people it's a way of life.
i dont know, but thats horrible. why are they doing that??
you are full of bull its just the Inuit harvesting them and its controlled go back to your Peta web site maybe they will club you in the head
You asinine twit. Stop spreading filthy lies. Besides, baby seal ';pogo sticks'; are just too delicious not to club them for... (I hear they serve them next to whale burgers in Japan...)
hmmm, Seal hunting, cant imagine thats much of a challenge but hey, they are way over populated in some areas. I'm amazed canada could come up with something that cool.

What is the best cover cent for coyote hunting?

Coyotes are very smart ,and will remember what sents and where you sat up the day before. You have to continually change your cover sent, weather animal or earth. And I,ve noticed that I can't use the same call over and over agian, You have to change, even if you are only hunting on the weekends. Even when trapping you must continually change the bait. I have probably spent three times as much money hunting coyotes, as deer. But if you have alot of them around , and their killing off you livestock, rabbits, pheasants, and quail, it's worth it. Just be patient, and you will get the right combination of lures and calls. What is the best cover cent for coyote hunting?
chicken scent, coyotes love that scent, anything to do with chicken, raw or feathers, or poopWhat is the best cover cent for coyote hunting?
Coyote spore would be the best scent.
I use red fox cover scent or you can use most earth scents. Use a predator call and a rabbot decoy. In some states they allow baiting, check you area conservation agency for the local laws to see the legal ways to hunt them. Hunt near a water source and an area were other game feed, there will be coyotes in this area. Good Luck with your hunt.
    Cover scent for coyote hunting???

You are going to sneak up on an animal whose sense of smell is a thousand times better than yours, who can practically see in the dark and who can hear you coming from a half-a-mile away? And you are worried about covering your scent?

Why don't you use a lure, a good scope on your rifle and pop him before he can get close enough to bite you, rather than trying to sneak up on him with your Bowie knife?

    Happy hunting.

    H
Cover yourself in steak, You'll get alot of coyotes and other animals to come after you! No need to hunt for them!
I agree with H everything he said is right on. The best way to hunt them is try to predict where they will come from and stay downwind, because you will not fool their nose no matter how you try. I call them quite often, I also trap and they are a very smart animal. The American Indians held them in high esteem, because they were so smart. To the non-hunter have you ever seen what a coyote can and will do to livestock? Or one of your kids dogs, or cats? If you had then you would be sitting right there beside me trying to put the crosshairs on your scope in the sweet spot.
Hunting is cruel, you evil person. How would you like someone to come along with a gun and shoot you?
Red fox is probably the best all around cover scent. Wild animals will be leery of a scent that doesn't belong. Fresh earth is okay but if it doesn't match the area perfectly, they will pick it out as abnormal for the area and will stay away. I have heard about chicken scent, but I have seen no proof. Red fox are just about everywhere so it is normal for them to smell in almost any area. But, it smells rather rank and some people won't use it for this reason. If you can handle the smell, this would be my recommendation. Good luck and happy hunting.

Why is hunting for food hard for the pilgrims?

Because they didn't know what they were doing and they weren't prepared when they got here. Why is hunting for food hard for the pilgrims?
Most Puritans that came to Massachusetts in that first wave were once upper class people in their native England. Some of them had not even shot a gun, let alone get their food anywhere other then the market or what their servants provided for them. Plus the wheat they brought failed in New England and they weren't accustomed to the weather. Also many of them became ill that first winter, making it hard for them to hunt. Why is hunting for food hard for the pilgrims?
Most of the people who came to New england were not country people. The list of occupations of the men who came to America include two tailors, a printer, several merchants, a silk worker, a shopkeeper and a hatter, among others. They would not have been accustomed to hunting at home, or for that matter growing their own food.
Because they don't know what's edible and what would kill them? Or where to find what could be eaten. Or the best ways to hunt down local game.

I have a coydog, can it be used for any kind of hunting?

I just had to have mine put to sleep last year, he was near 16 years old 90% blind and got to where he was unable to walk just standing up was a h ell of a task, just old age.

He was fine on rabbits and squirrels but way to aggressive on any other species.

But who ever says a coy is timid, has never owned a coy and probably don鈥檛 even know what a coy is that鈥檚 for sure.

I never was concerned about any one braking into my house while my coy was alive.

My coy would not back down from anything, when my coy was 5 years old I started raising wolves.

My new full grown male wolf (100% no hybrid) tried to show dominance well my coy cleared the fence and killed my male wolf that was twice the size of the coy before I could get in side the fence and stop the fight.

The coydog is the most aggressive animal I have ever met and I have had to kill them in the woods in my line of work.

One thing I found out is he has no fear of man, and not something you wont on your @ss.

    That my opinion.

D58I have a coydog, can it be used for any kind of hunting?
As I understand it... coydogs are given to timidity in strange surroundings and somewhat skittish. So taking the hybrid to a strange tract of woods and using it to flush game or track game might be out. You might be better off getting a different kind of dog for hunting and keep the coydog for the novelty. You'll both be happier.I have a coydog, can it be used for any kind of hunting?
It would be good for Bear or Mountain Lion hunting.... as bait.
coydogs are great targets ha!ha! just joking

Who is or has been hunting this season?

im going for kudu, warthog, blesbuck, mountainreedbuck and some others this year..............................Who is or has been hunting this season?
Yeah Kudu and Warthog is the best to hunt. I am looking forward to having 'biltong' and 'dro毛wors'! Absolutely love it. And although I'm a lady, I like hunting. Its fun and you learn a lot from some ppl...Who is or has been hunting this season?
a guy at hubbys work goes hunting, I think for Kudu, then sells half (cut into nice pieces by the butcher for R600) Im not so sure about eating that much kudu - we dont even know what it tastes like! But the price is good and it has no BST or other antibiotics/growth hormones so technically it is *organic* which is normally an expensive diet to follow
Got a few duck and hare, only thing to hunt here in Portugal! (Season here now closed)
Personally, I don't approve of hunting unless you're going to skin and eat the animal yourself. Culling doesn't count because it's our fault in the first place they don't have enough space to live in.

If it's a ';true'; hunt (you stalk the animal yourself - not the guide) then I think it's fair. That's the only kind of hunting I will do.

    Edit:

Sorry, no I'm not going hunting this season :)
I do not find the murder of defenseless animals recreational.

I have however been on 2 weekends away to game farms near Naboomspruit.
I don't hunt, but my fiance and friends are going on a hunting weekend in June, I don't mind because I'll be getting biltong from it. I must confess, if I should see the animal that is being shot, then I wouldn't eat the meat, I can't eat something I looked in the eyes... it is like eating your own dog....

(I don't want to step on your toes, I just feel sorry for the poor things, but I can't wait for that biltong... yummy!!!)
I have no personal objection to hunting, especially as you describe your hunting. That is at least half way to being fair. I do not however hunt.

I have to admit I am not keen on the taste of venison either.

You should check out http://www.MooseMaster.com ... Air Ivanhoe is the top notch tourist outfitter based out of Northern Ontario offering fly in moose hunting opportunities for Archery and Rifle season. They're based out of Foleyet, between Timmins and Chapleau.Looking for fly in Moose Hunting of northern Ontario?
What I did was Google it. You can find all kinds of outfitters and packages. Good luck and catch a char for me.

Have you ever gone Snipe hunting. How do they taste?

Very bland actually. I wouldn't waste time hunting one; not very yummy.Have you ever gone Snipe hunting. How do they taste?
The taste is that of the dust of feeling a fool. I was nine when I want out on a snipe hunt with an old flour bag. When we got home my mother had a cup of hot chocolate--with a marshmallow--to wash away the taste.Have you ever gone Snipe hunting. How do they taste?
LOL LMAO I remember when my brother took me snipe hunting... i was like seven and i spend like three hours lost in the woods trying to find those stupid things... only to find out that they aren't real... So seeing as they aren't real they don't taste like anything :)
Snipe hunting isn't real. It's a fake type of hunting that veteran hunters play on greenhorns. It's sort of a rite of passage.
yes i,ve been hunting. not caught even one yet. but i just know i,m gonna get me one this year!!!
    They taste like chicken.
we all ways play snipe hunting in you don't taste any thing

ummmm.... is raghinoseros supposed to be rhinoceros.... ya know.... the animal. your just having a laugh right cause that makes absolutely no sense. How can we explain to people to aware of raghinoseros hunting? these days many raghino have been hunting.?
Lordy, that mighty original spelling you use there! And such a fun way of arranging words!
ah couldnae a put it better masel
I am not sure about this one either. I thought it was a play on words thing, to explain to people how to put a rag in their nose.
Aren't Raghino those funny little Italian pasta?
    Education is the best way.
I see raghinoseros romaing the streets all the time. They cause terrible car wrecks, and they really smell bad. I think everyone should be hunting them. Tell me how, and I'll let everyone in my town know they should be hunting them. By the way, do you have any good recipes for them?
Have we not to sort out our own hunting problems before butting in on others like fox or scare a bird into the air yep u guessed it to shoot it down (pheasants/grouse) oh but it is all right we BREED them to be shot down and it helps the economy

And please do not treat us as fools thinking you are dumb when you obviously are not or DO NOT FOOL ABOUT WITH A SERIOUS ISSUE
What the hell are Raghino?!! How drunk are you!!
    Yes.!!!

Is that rhinos that you are talking about.!!!

Then Education is a very good thing for all the people concerned.!!!
NOW would be a chance to sharpen up your english a bit.

Look the words up in a dictionary and tell us again,

Why is so called ';whale hunting for scientific research'; still tolerated.?

Why have all the major countries of this world not brought massive trade sanctions against Japan and the other whale hunting nations. It is utterly apalling that this behaviour is tolerated by any society, today. What gives whale hunting countries the right to deprive these magnificent creatures of life and future generations of people the chance to marvel at them. Is it because japan and Norway are not oil producing nations., or is there something else which I have missed. Or is it apathy on the part of the political leaders of the major economies of this world?.Why is so called ';whale hunting for scientific research'; still tolerated.?
The same thing gives the Japanese the right to make a living, that gives you the right. The same thing gives the Japanese the right to harvest whales, that gives you the right to harvest fish. That thing is called a sovereign nation and it exists to protect the rights of it's countrymen. Why is so called ';whale hunting for scientific research'; still tolerated.?
Japanese whalers only catch a certain species of whale, which is not in danger of extinction. So, what's the problem - sentimentality, that's all.

Maybe Israel and the Islamic countries should get together and bring massive trade sanctions against the pork-eating nations, or India should slap sanctions on us for eating beef? Whale is a traditional food for many different societies, and if some of the whales caught for research end up on the dinner table (after the relevant parts have been removed for testing), who are we to say that this is wrong?

Revolvers are better for handgun hunting than semiauto pistols? Why?

Yes to all the above on revolvers, but on autos you have forgotten the 10mm, which is the only auto recommended for comfortable medium game hunting. The top loads give .41 magnum power without tearing you hand up, or rattling you teeth loose like the other big dogs.Revolvers are better for handgun hunting than semiauto pistols? Why?
    Longer barrel

    Ability to mount a scope

Better selection of appropriate calibersRevolvers are better for handgun hunting than semiauto pistols? Why?
Many good answers here, but reliability is not an issue with modern firearms. There are few if any semi-auto pistols that have enough power to kill even a deer at moderate ranges. The are a few that will kill a moose. The LAR Grizzly in .45 Win Mag, Wildey .475, Automag in .44 automag, and the IMI Desert Eagle in .50AE.

The problem with them is most states limit the magazine capacity in hunting weapons to 4 or 5 rounds and on the above mentioned, there is no practical way to do it.
they are not! too much hand movement equired to fire causing one to move off target also, too slow especially in emergency. revolvers take lots of training and semiauto is more ';point and shoot';1
Revolvers are less prone to malfunction, but the predominant reason is that they can be chambered in cartridges that would make short work of an automatic action. For example, my Ruger Redhawk will last until the other side of forever (.44 mag), while a semi-automatic handgun chambered in .44 mag will suffer spring failures constantly, requiring the disassembly of the gun entirely, and replacement of crucial parts after ';X'; number of rounds. Short and simple, it's harder to ';break'; a revolver, than it is to ';break'; a semi-auto (provided they are of quality, from reputable manufacturers).
Well, when facing a 1100lb grisly on a mountain ledge you may not want a jam. Revolvers hardly ever jam. The big calibers are revolvers excluding the Eagle niche gun that is to $$ anyway.
    Bigger bullets.
Autos can be just as reliable as a revolver. A revolver can chamber rounds that simply can not be put into an auto-loading pistol.

I hunt with a 44 Mag, and have shot several White Tail deer, as well as Black bear. I can shoot a 340 grain bullet out at over 1500 fps. This is huge energy and penitrating power.

Considering that shots are at about 50 meters, this is an ideal gun. There are even heavier hunters like the 500 S%26amp;W Mag, and a better suited 460 S%26amp;W Mag. These are for killing big animals like a Brown Bear, or bigger. Or in the case of the 460, long ranges out to 200 meters are possible. These Super Mags dwarf the .44 Mag.

I been using a 44 for years, and it is a very capable caliber, the 500 is a downright hand cannon, pushing 500 grains out at 1500 fps. This is what a 12 gauge shotgun slug does!!!

If you ever took a look at a 45 ACP bullet, and compare it to a 44 mag bullet, or a huge 500 S%26amp;W Mag, you would understand. The sheer size of the hunting calibers make chambering in a pistol difficult at best, impossible with any degree of potablity.
I don't think there is a big enough difference to preclude one over the other. In the right hands that is. Having said that. It seems all the answers above are right. Most of the time you won't be using a regular hand gun for any real long distance shooting. I know I know there are specialty hand guns out there like the Remington's (I think it's Remington) XPS bolt action or the T.C.Contender that really can reach out and touch someone. I'm just talking 6'; or so barrel. Wheel guns are more reliable in nasty conditions just due to the design. I would hate to have to live on the difference in reliability...There isn't much.
One inherent reliability advantage the revolver has over the self loader that hasn't been mentioned is the very rare event of a cartridge failure. The the action of the auto must be worked to clear the failed round where the double action revolver need only have the trigger pulled again to fire. I have had a couple or three center fire cartridges fail on me and dozens of rimfires over the years.
If you're shooting small game with a 22, it won't make a lot of difference. Medium game, though, requires a powerful cartridge. That begins about 41 Magnum, though some people think 357 Magnum is enough. Moreover, when you use those cartridges, you'll choose a long, heavy-for-caliber bullet of hard lead alloy with a wide, flat nose and a shoulder of Kieth design. If you ignore the bullet, there are a few auto cartridges than can look on paper like they're close to the ballistics of heavy hunting revolvers' cartridges, but they can't handle the bullets. If you get to the auto's that handle rimmed magnum cartridges, they'll (1) be handicapped by not being able to use the best bullets and (2) be clunky, unweildy, and unreliable. They're also likely to be noisy. Some of us are even picky enough to prefer single-action revolvers to double-action, though I use both, because with the single-action revolver, the hammer can be pulled back in perfect silence, if you know the trick, where a double-action will always have the clicks. The same could be said of the snick of flipping the safety on most autoloaders.
The revolver can be chambered for rifle cartridges and they can have much longer barrels. (At some point it's simply a rifle with a pistol grip, in my opinion). They also are heavier so they soak up more recoil.

In the end if you don't care about that stuff and it's legal to hunt with in your state, then it's entirely personal preference which one you use. I live in PA, I desperately wish they let us hunt with semiautos because I LOVE the Beretta Neos pistols. No such luck though.
Most modern automatics are not accurate enough. A modern pistol can usually get something like 6'; or 8'; so at 50 yards. That means with a perfect shot, you shill have a very large area. This is perfectly fine for shoot outs at 7, 10 and 20 yards (most people can't hit squat past those areas anyways).

Because of handgun's lower power, they have to hit a smaller target on the animal.

Most modern, auto's can't do that.

You can get a nice revolver with a 6 or 8 inch barrel and get groups of 2' at 50 yards or smaller.

That, and the fact that there are a lot of revolver calibers that are much more powerful than common auto calibers.

That isn't saying you can't hunt with autos. You just have to have be much pickier on your shots. Like maybe 15 yards and perfect line up as opposed to 40 yards with a good profile.
by the simple fact that a revolver can be designed around a cartridge that offers heavy projectile weight.

Big cartridges produce heavy stresses in pistol chambers---it can be a problem, the autoloaders offer limited mass to work around if effective locking lugs are required to contain those heavier pressures
They malfunction less when dirty. They also fire larger bore and more powerful cartridges. Many cartridges approved by the DNR are Revolver cartridges, more so than Semiauto rimless rounds.
Because they are chambered for the most efficient hunting calibers. Very few semi autos are made beyond the power of the .44 Mag,and many of them are no longer made.
A Colt style 45 acp 1911 works well in all environments.

In NC do you need a hunting license to hunt on ur on land & do you still have to follow the season dates?

Understand all game laws are subject to change to comply with the conservation needs.

The hunter is but a tool of the conservation.

Most states allow land owners and or leasers and or their children who reside on the land to hunt and or fish with out a license.

Most states exclude hunting leases, there by requiring the hunting lease holders to have a hunting license.

But most states do require all big game or migratory birds that are hunted to have the stamp or tags if required in that state.

All states have set up seasons to allow a recovery for the species that is being hunted.

All Game laws as to seasons and bag limits are enforced on all land inside the borders of said state.

Lease or ownership of the land is just that, The land not the wildlife.

All wildlife is classified property of the State as a natural resource.

To protect this and preserve the future of our ecosystem stringent guide lines are in place.

Seasons for wildlife and or the Endangered species classification is enforced on state and privet lands.

With only one exclusion, Wildlife Department personnel and or their agents trained and appointed by the Department of Wildlife will crop those in the classification of Big Game species and or Endangered Species only after their agents prove depredation exist out side the excepted limits.

That does exclude self defense, Self defense on wildlife is hard to win, and in most cases

Unless you can show a victim with bite marks or other physical evidence of being mauled

Such actions will be prosecuted as poaching and or willful destruction.

This was implemented to prevent Large Predators from willful and wrongful act of violence with out just cause, just because it growls and or charges and individual is not an attack in the laws views.

For your own protection you need to check with your Department of Wildlife in your areaIn NC do you need a hunting license to hunt on ur on land %26amp; do you still have to follow the season dates?
check with your local dnr officeIn NC do you need a hunting license to hunt on ur on land %26amp; do you still have to follow the season dates?
In most states, if you are indeed the landowner, you can go to any licensing facility and get a landowner permit. Sometimes you may have to go to the courthouse to get one. If you're hunting on your own land but it is NOT in your name, you'll need a license.

Trust me, I know. I have to pay the non-resident fee of $160 every November to hunt on my own farm in Wisconsin.

You should contact your local DNR office though.

    Should whale hunting be banned?

what is your opinion on whale hunting?Should whale hunting be banned?
Absolutely. Whales are very intelligent creatures that live in close knit family groups. When you kill a whale, the whole family suffers. Each whale plays a vital role in the pod. Whales also play a very important role in the ocean ecosystem. It is one thing to hunt an animal that is overpopulating certain areas, but most whales are at a very low population, if not threatened/endangered. I dont believe hunting of any kind is right, but this is one of the worst. At least people can make up ideas about how deer cause damage to the environment (at high populations) to justify killing them. In many areas, whale hunting is banned. But there are those countries that still insist on whaling, often disguising it as something else (research).Should whale hunting be banned?
Yes. There is no product in whale harvesting that cannot be readily duplicated in a lab or factory.
I think it's cruel. They're majestic animals and they're not our only food source. Some people just like hunting because they like to watch something die. Sickos.
YES, It should be banned! ALL hunting should be banned!

When job hunting, do recruiters somehow discriminate based on past employer's mistakes, bankrupcy/ legal prob?

My husband just lost his job because the Company is being sued by the IRS. It was all over the news and everything, looking real bad. Will recruiters (subconsciously or not) not hire him even though he learned a lot.... (he's in IT)

I am asking this question because the Company I was with for 6 years went Bankrupt a few years ago. I was even a recent college grad at the time and found it incredibly difficult to find anything (even jobs I thought were under me). Certainly there could have been other reasons, but I am wondering if this added to it and how my husband should proceed when looking.

Anyone? When job hunting, do recruiters somehow discriminate based on past employer's mistakes, bankrupcy/ legal prob?
I am a recruiter. I do not, if anything it makes a even more legit reason why you are looking. Passive candidates, and candidates that are looking because of company downsizing or closure are the best candidates in the world.

Unless he shreded the papers at enron, he should be okWhen job hunting, do recruiters somehow discriminate based on past employer's mistakes, bankrupcy/ legal prob?
In my opinion a company could have gone bankrupt for a myriad of reasons. Any good recruiters would not allow that to serve as a detterent, you husband needs to ensure that he has put together a really decent resume that would make his skills, achievement and experiences to stand out.

Good IT people are always in short supply, I believe that if he can ensure that his resume is prepared as a marketing document and he prepares well for interviews a job should be not too far off in the horizon.

Has witch-hunting occurred in modern politics since McCarthy?

    explain please

thankk you in advance! :)Has witch-hunting occurred in modern politics since McCarthy?
~Hmmm, there were the long-haired hippy pinko commie freaks of the sixties, and today those ragheads and camel jockeys are all closet terrorists to the extent that we would actually applaud passage of something as repressive as the Patriot Act. God forbid a gay person should run for political office, or, worse still, ask to be treated as an equal and be given equal protection of the law and due process and civil rights. Hey, those Beaners jumping the river are probably after your job. too. Now that the Yellow Peril is under control, what do we do about the Chinks?

Whenever an incompetent, inept politician is in trouble and needs votes, not to worry. He'll find a target. And as long as the bigotry is spewed from the pulpits, he'll have a ready audience. Maybe that's why the Kennedy boys jumped on the McCarthy bandwagon and did so much of the grunt work for Joe and HUAC.Has witch-hunting occurred in modern politics since McCarthy?
The Patriot Act has led to McCarthyism, this time against Muslims. The extreme right is trying very hard to purge politics of democrats and liberals. Conservative Christians are trying hard to purge those who don't think and believe as they do.

It's an ongoing battle here in the US, and we have to stay alert, aware and willing to battle against it.

Is pig Hunting with dogs bad yes or No? and why!?

I dont think pig hunting with dogs (dogging) i do it..i just wanted to no other pepoles opinions!!Is pig Hunting with dogs bad yes or No? and why!?
Surprised you haven't gotten more responses from the insane society.

It's sport hunting and no different than any other sport hunting.

You are still the one that decides if you take the shot or not.Is pig Hunting with dogs bad yes or No? and why!?
see you're treading a grey line with this question. The dogs well being is often the first concern of people on this site... and wild pigs can get pretty big and they're kinda tough ol' buggers.. so many people will see it as you knowingly putting your dog in harms way.

There of course are other people who are life long hunters who think you should only use a dog to find or retrieve the animal and you do all the dirty work.

And then there are the gamers. The people who still enjoy going on fox hunts and seeing the fox being ripped apart by the pack of fox hounds that chase it. They don't see a dog as a companion but rather as just another form of weapon to hunt with.

There is a lot of grey area between these groups. I personally don't know where I stand with it, you could take the best care of your dogs of anyone in the world and they may love hunting wild pig with you. I'm just not much of a hunter so I'm not really comfortable with the idea of dogging. It's not illegal though so I guess whether others approve of it or not shouldn't really matter. Most people don't like or understand it so really you'll just be starting trouble where you don't need it by talking about it with people who probably aren't for it.
I love to see a dog do what it's bred to do...within reason. I'm not a hunting fan, personally. I don't see killing as a sport. That said, I don't impose my beliefs on my...dog. I accept that dogs are predators. They're also happiest when they have a job to do.
Pigs can be very dangerous, and hurt the dogs.
I am curious as to where you hunt pigs? In the wild's of Africa?

No it's not bad. Dogs have been used by mankind for eons to help him hunt. You might be better off using more than one though. Those pigs are mean.
yes its bad because the dogs' prey is a pig. so its like the prey is hunting prey.
YES!!!!!! Thats inhumane! How would you like some dogs chasing you trying to kill you?
IT's bad.. If you truly want to hunt, you should be hunting with your own skills and for food only.
It's not a bad thing, depending on whether or not they use the pig as in butcher it or not, I can't stand it when people just hunt for the sake of tusks or antlers or just to mount that thing on the wall....all of that stuff is well and good, but they need to use the animals body if they are going to take it's life, at least make some use of it instead of tossing everything but one part that they can mount. Anyway, back the ther question, I believe that dogs should do what they were bred to do, I mean that's why there are different breeds in the first place. Just like the Louisiana Catahoula Hog Dog, that's in fact what this breed excells at!

Oh, and you don't have to go to the wilds of Africa to hog hunt....I live where you can take a little drive and be in the middle of wild hog country!
Bad for the pig and can get the dogs hurt.

I have prey dogs, but don't use them to hunt, they are companion animals now.
Hunting is hunting. Not for me but it is for alot of folks. I have a German Shorthair that we don't hunt. As a result, we have to keep him almost overly excersised and very challenged. He is a great boy, but he is a hunter. Would have been a great hunting dog, but... Now he's a great love that's always tired.

For varmints like jackrabbits and crows, I've always used a shotgun like the 20 gauge, but a .22 would also be useful if you can get one to hold still long enough to take aim. As for a rifle like deer or elk, the .30-06 works every time.

Elk hunting in white river National forest, Colorado?

Hi, I'm looking for info on elk hunting the White River National forest in, Colorado on public land in the 2nd rifle season. From what I have read the the elk population above I-70 is great. does anyone have any info, experience or a certain location within White river, thanks.Elk hunting in white river National forest, Colorado?
I've hunted just north of I-70 around Vail and further west a few times. (Never 2nd, but 1st cow, 3rd bull.) I've taken a few elk. Its OK. Lots of public %26amp; less private. Sometimes it looks like a lot of hunters and the elk can get WAY back in there. A horse would be nice. You may need to keep cruising to figure out where to be (more than normal...)

You are talking about 2nd for next year right? (its done this year.)Elk hunting in white river National forest, Colorado?
I do not have any direct experience hunting in White River National Forest, but from what I have read especially on Field and Stream, the land is listed as #3 in the states. As far as some general guidelines the Flat Top Wilderness area is known to have big resident bulls. This is thin air country, so be prepared physically.

    Here are some other tips:

Look for: Security cover. Ranges that contain hard-to-reach, unroaded tracts of black timber will reward you with a better chance at larger bulls than heavily logged, easily accessible terrain, where opening-day harvest is high and elk don鈥檛 have much chance to grow up. Hunting is also likely to stay good longer into the season where there鈥檚 security cover.

Watch out for: Elk sanctuaries. On some ranges, elk have become so fine-tuned to hunting pressure that they migrate miles to (relatively) safe havens on private lands before the rifle season starts. Contact game managers to see if this is a concern and invest in a computer mapping program, so that you can preprogram your GPS with waypoints marking property boundaries.

If you are doing a self-guided hunt, another excellent resource is an eBook called';The Rocky Mountain Elk Guide'; - it can be found here: http://theamericastop.com/ebook-book-reviews/rocky-mountain-elk-guide-review/

What is barack obama's position on hunting?

my mother is an avid hunter and she said that is the only reason she did not vote for him because he wants to end the sport. all i have read is he wants higher taxes on guns and ammo, can someone please clarify so i have something to fire back with? or even not fire back with just so i have the facts. thank you. What is barack obama's position on hunting?
Unless your mom hunts with an AK-47 or other assault-type weapon designed to kill PEOPLE instead of wild game, she will be able to enjoy hunting in the future. What is barack obama's position on hunting?
He isn't anti hunting, he's anti gun. If you like bowhunting, he's your man. If you like defending your home, family, or state from criminals or a corrupt federal government, you definitely voted for the wrong man. PS- AK-47s are semi auto here in America. HR 1022 states any semi auto with a detatchable magazine or a magazine fed by stripper clips. That legislation was named after the world's favorite .22 rifle. The point is, we can't fight off a corrupt government as long as we give up our rights. THAT is why gun control exists, make no mistake.
Obama and most of the entire Democratic team have always strongly opposed the private ownership of firearms.

During his political career to date, Obama has voted against the right of the individual to own and/or carry firearms each and every time he's had the opportunity.

Expect to see severe restrictions on the right to own and carry firearms over the next few years. At a minimum, they'll be taxed to the point where the average person won't be able to afford them.
hunting is not a sport! anyone who kills for fun is in need of a psychiatrist. unless you're hunting for food, and that's your sole purpose, QUIT killing all the animals.

guns shouldn't be easy to get. because, stupid ignorant fools can then get ahold of them, and kill other people. he wants to keep them out of the hands of criminals. personally, i think anyone wanting to purchase a gun should have to go under psychological tests.
obama wants to tax everything till nobody can afford to continue. he is a environmentalist. obama is against guns. not only does he want higher taxes he wants to ban them. his political stance on guns have changed after he realized he needed the support of gun clinging america but that does not mean his agenda is any different.
Well go to NRA.com he is not for firearms in general.

He wants to tax them to the point that we can't afford them. Gun sales are up and so is ammo, people are buying before he gets into office. I'm buying a high pwer rifle for my 16 year old before he gets in!
Listen to Charlie Bravo. President elect Obama does not want to end the sport. He just doesn't believe you should be able to use semi automatic weapons to do it with.
He never advocated an end to ';hunting';.

In fact, he's as far as the 2nd Amendment is concerned, he's quite a centrist on the issue.
STOCK UP ON AMMO. if guns can't be banned, then ';they'; will make ammo so high priced or hard to get, they might as well ban guns.

    trust me. it's true.
BO is an advid hunter. He preys on one's sensitivities, the weak, and uninformed.
If you think you will get an informed answer from the bigots on Y/A you're wrong.
He is not anti hunting. He has no interest in ending it. He wants to ban things like the ak47... not used for hunting.
Him and john hunt all the time and have a gay old time!

Sports hunting, should it be illegal?

I just posted this same question and I have no clue why it was removed........ Shouldn't hunting animal for game (not food) be illegal?Sports hunting, should it be illegal?
No.Sports hunting, should it be illegal?
the reason why it was removed was probably because you are posting an anti hunting remark in the pro hunting section... Someone did not like it and reported you for ranting.
no it shoundnt that is what all of us hunters look foward to get peace and quiet from our wifes gf or for the women the can get peace and quiet from the husbands and bf so its a fun thing to do
No it should not be. Why? It's also part of very many conservation programs as well. Though i eat what i shoot, that doesn't mean everyone does, and for those who don't there are several programs set up to give their kill to ,to be processed and given to those in need.(i.e. Share the harvest programs.) Not to mention all the revenue generated from sports hunting and fishing both that goes directly back into many(if not all conservation efforts0 as well as thousands of wildlife restoration projects. This is one area where';Progression through conservative principle shines like a unfading beacon that can be seen through any type of obstruction. If anything the people and the government both might want to pay particular attention to this arena, because it could in fact teach them a thing or two. This is one area where one's recreation has actually provided somebody in need as well as help conserve the environment in which these recreational activities take place. It's win win met through conservative effort.
No. Ask yourself, Should picking corn to make a decrotative centerpeice be illegal?
no, just because you dont like it doesnt make it bad.
You might have eliminated MY answer to your question before, because you didn't like my answer.......BUT I Reported and had YOUR question removed because it was in violation of Community Guidelines..You taking the HINT yet? Don't go away Mad..Just Go Away......
As I said before, you are incapable of forming a coherent and intelligible thought here.
