What grain pellet is best for hunting rabbits.?

With a 1000 fps air rifle what grain pellet is best for hunting rabbits, pigeons crows etc.

cheersWhat grain pellet is best for hunting rabbits.?
It doesn't matter, heavier pellets go slower, so they all hit with the same amount of energy. 8.0 to 9.0 grains are the best for spring piston air rifles (break barrel, side-lever, under-lever) because they're not too light, which causes the piston to slam against the chamber end, and not too heavy which causes the air pressure to get really high up there, which is also bad for the spring.

Pellet shape doesn't really matter either. Try out some different pellets and whichever ones you can shoot most accurately at the distance you are going to be hunting within, are the ones.

Good luck! What grain pellet is best for hunting rabbits.?
Accuracy is the key when hunting rabbit(etc) with an air rifle(pellet gun). You don't have the ';overkill'; that you do with a .22 lr , so you need to make an accurate head shot to insure a quick, clean, humane kill.

You need to find the pellet your rifle prefers(accuracy) and the only way to do that is experiment with a variety of high quality pellets.

Most .177 caliber air rifles that ';claim'; a MV of 1000fps, actually get somewhere around 850-900fps with 8gr pellets. IMO for sporting air rifle, 850fps - 950fps gives you the best combination of accuracy and trajectory(flat). If the MV is too low, trajectory suffers, if the MV is to high accuracy does.

IMO, these are some of the very best hunting pellets available at a reasonable cost.

JSB Exact Domed(7.6gr)

Crosman Premier Domed Light(7.9gr)**

Beeman Silver Ace(8.1gr)

RWS Superpoint(8.2gr)

RWS Superdome(8.3gr)**

H %26amp; N Field and Target(8.5gr)

Beeman Silver Sting(8.6gr)

Beeman Crow-Magnum(8.8gr) %26gt;the only hollowpoint I recommend

JSB Predator(8.2gr) - Results vary greatly with this pellet, it performs very well in some rifles, but it also performs very poorly in others.

**If you prefer not to purchase a sampler(which I highly recommend) these would be the pellets I would try first

Some airgun manufacturers use ultra light weight pellets to get anywhere near, those ';claimed / up to'; muzzle velocities. ';Generally'; the heavier the pellet the lower your MV is going to be. There are some rare occasions when a slightly heavier pellet will give you a slightly higher MV.
Heavy as you can get or that new faster pellets that does 1200fps
Check out these pellets designed for hunting varmints.

Find the most accurate pellet in your gun. Now stick with it! You don't need any special pellets or weights as long as you are accurate.
* Number 4, 5, or 6 shot works well.*
Get next to the highest grain you can get.
a 10.6 in .177 and 14.3 in .22
well get a file and hunting tipe
What is wrong with you!!!!!! Who hunts rabbits you animal!!!!!
